A new trailer for J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi series Believe actually does a pretty good job of setting up the high-concept premise.
Though it hit a snag or two on its way through development, the show is finally set to premiere on Monday, March 10. The series has shed two showrunners since production ramped up, and director Jonas Pate is currently lined up to handle day-to-day duties as showrunner. Believe follows a young girl (Johnny Sequoyah) with special abilities and the prison escapee (Jake McLaughlin) tasked with protecting her.
Abrams (Lost, Fringe) is already a big draw for most fans, and Cuaron is up for several major awards in the wake of his mind-bending space film Gravity. The two are definitely interesting bedfellows, and we can’t wait to get a look at what they’ve cooked up with this series.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Levitation, telekinesis, the ability to control nature, see the future... since she was born, Bo (Johnny Sequoyah) has had gifts she could neither fully understand nor control. But now that she is 10 years old, her powers have become stronger and the threat from malevolent forces that would use her abilities to control the world has grown more dangerous. With her life and future in jeopardy, Bo's protector, Milton Winter (Delroy Lindo, "The Chicago Code"), turns to an unlikely source to keep her safe - Tate (Jake McLaughlin, "Crash"), a wrongfully imprisoned death row inmate who's lost his will.
