Super 8's trailer scares us ... and NOT just because of the monster

Super 8 will be hitting theaters in the U.S. and Canada Friday, so Paramount has hit us with a creepy new trailer. This trailer is slightly more disturbing than the previous ones ... (no) thanks to the military.

In the background of one shot, an officer leans over a traumatized civilian and asks, "I don't want any more trouble, do you?" In the foreground, we see a doctor drawing a needle. This implies that the military is doping the poor guy to keep him from talking.

It won't surprise us if the monster is only ONE of the antagonists that our heroes have to worry about.

And spoilers are something that Paramount has worried about for months now. We have no idea what this monster looks like and what it's capable of; from this trailer, we only know it's huge, terrifying and has a Godzilla-like howl.

Considering the security on Super 8, we're also curious about Paramount's decision to stagger its release dates.

Audiences in the U.K. will have to wait until Aug. 5 to see the movie, by which time every spoiler about the movie will have circumnavigated the Internet. For a movie as spoiler-free as Super 8 has been, a staggered release date kind of lessens that impact.

But if the movie is as terrific as its trailers have suggested, people will flock to the cinema, even if they've ... oops ... accidentally downloaded it in June.

See the newest trailer for yourselves.
