Supergirl, like the other CW superhero shows in the Arrowverse, is constantly going off the rails during its season finales. Season 3 was, well, no different.
Now, an all-too-prescient storyline about a Russian enemy that looks a little familiar and a newly-discovered mother are just a few of the things that Kara and crew will have to deal with in the upcoming season (which will be taking from the “Red Son” Superman arc) -- and we at SYFY WIRE were lucky enough to hear about it from the source.
At San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and producers held a special video presentation before their Q&A panel, which featured stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, and Jesse Rath alongside executive producers Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller, and Sarah Schechter.
They showed the sneak peek above of the upcoming fourth season, which featured a new spacesuit-esque suit with a big helmet and a light-up "S," the ominous introduction of the growling Agent Liberty (tossing around plenty of immigration-themed rhetoric about job-taking), and tons of explosions. They also announcemed the big news of TV's first transgender superhero, Nia Nal, aka Dreamer.
While Harewood said that he's only seen the first four scripts of the season, the storyline looks to be taking a challenging direction. With the focus on the ground and how the world is reacting to the craziness, it makes sense that some more intense social issues will be a crux -- especially when Rath's character butts heads with Alex, as the pair teased.
Season 4 of Supergirl airs on Oct. 14 on The CW.
