Don't you hate it when the sister of the guy who tried to kill you is suddenly your boss? According to Mehcad Brooks, Lena Luthor being James' boss is going to make things a little ... tense in the new season of Supergirl.

“Well, her brother tried to kill me, so there’s definitely an unspoken tension between them in some ways,” Brooks told EW. “Although he does give her a fair chance, they do butt heads because her style of management is different from his style of management.

As Brooks tells it, James is more old-school when it comes to his management style, while Lena is coming in with an attitude that feels more millennial. There's also a hint here that Lena's free and easy style might make things tough for James.

According to Katie McGrath, Lena Luthor's taking all of this 100% seriously.

"James is expecting her to buy [CatCo] and go back to L Corp," McGrath explains. "He knows she’s the boss, but he doesn’t quite know what his role is anymore. So you’ve got a competent man and a strong woman — Mehcad is going to hate me that I said that — an amazing man and an even better woman butting heads, which obviously is almost like a screwball comedy, Spencer Tracy-Katharine Hepburn thing.”

To complicate it further, Lena being around every day might make it a little more difficult for Kara to explain her sudden disappearances. Of course, if it's played well, it could definitely become a comedic throughline that might offset some of the darkness that Kara will be facing as new villain Psi (Yael Grobglas) puts her plans in motion.
