Supergirl, aka Kara Danvers, is ready to fly back into our television screens starting Oct. 14. Not only will National City's favorite hero be appearing on Sundays from now on, she'll be bringing some new characters with her, too.

One of the new additions to Supergirl is the character of Nia Nal, played by Nicole Maines. Kara will take her under her wing at Catco before Nia takes on the superhero mantle of "Dreamer." Maines' debut this season makes her the first transgender actor to play a transgender superhero

If Nia's name sounds familiar, it's because it is somewhat similar to the DC Comics character Nura Nal, also known as Dream Girl. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Nia is the ancestor of Nura.

Also joining the new season is genre heavyweight Sam Witwer (Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Solo: A Star Wars Story), who will be playing Agent Liberty, the leader of an anti-alien organization called Children of Liberty.

Take a look at the new trailer right here:

Though we don't see Nia Nal suit up yet, we do see Kara (Melissa Benoist) giving her some advice about fear, which is said to be a major factor this season. As she tells her in the trailer, “ matter how much we believe in ourselves, that never really goes away." Every time that Kara thinks she's not afraid of anything, something chases her "back down the rabbit hole." She ends by saying, “Once we catch ourselves, we have to jump right back out there.” Hopefully Kara Zor-El will be a positive influence on Nia Nal.

In terms of Witwer's Agent Liberty, he's looking like he may have just taken a bullet (or been stabbed) in this first glimpse. We also get a look at Chyler Leigh's Alex Danvers, and she's sporting an upgraded (and badass) outfit.

Supergirl will leap to Sundays in a single bound on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. on the CW. Will you be watching, or was Maxwell Lord never coming back a dealbreaker? Let us know below in the Fortress of Comments.
