We’re now at the midway point of the Supergirl hiatus and to whet our appetite for the Girl of Steel’s return on April 24, The CW has unleashed a VFX breakdown from the show’s sixth episode titled “Changing.”

If you'll recall, that’s the episode that introduced scientist Dr. Rudy Jones (William Mapother), aka Parasite, to the Arrowverse. There has been a couple of versions of Parasite in the pages of DC Comics over the years, but Rudy Jones made his first appearance in Firestorm vol. 2 #58 (April 1987), the brainchild of writer John Ostrander and artist Joe Brozowski.

In the two-minute video, we have a sneak peek at how they generated the parasitic alien and a look at the special effects used in the dramatic encounter between the Superman villain and our high-flying alien heroes: Martian Manhunter and Supergirl. The video also highlights the mix of VFX and practical effects used when Parasite absorbed J’onn J’onzz and Kara’s life forces, Supergirl’s flight over National City, and a whole lot more so dig in below!

Supergirl returns on April 24 at 8 p.m. on the CW with a new episode titled “Ace Reporter.”
