It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Warner Bros. officially announcing that Superman will appear in the first two episodes of Season 2 of The CW’s Supergirl!
Casting is currently underway for the iconic role of the Man of Steel, and the awesome news came via a statement from executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, who said:
“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”
For now, details are scarce beyond the fact that Supes will be visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City. It’s possible Kal-El will become involved somehow with the Kryptonian pod that crash-landed on Earth at the end of Season 1. Totally makes sense.
Even though Superman has often been mentioned on the former CBS series and is linked to many of the show's characters, including Kara,
Jimmy James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan Tatum), the Son of Krypton's on-screen presence was limited to some fleeting obscure appearances with no dialogue.
A young Kal-El (Daniel DiMaggio) appeared as a hallucination in the Supergirl episode “For the Girl Who Has Everything.”
This is pretty great news, since fans had half-expected that the character would never show up on the series, since he’s such a prominent figure in Warner Bros.’ DCEU on the big screen, where he's played by Henry Cavill. As for which version of Superman the show will get, Kreisberg said last year:
“It’s not the Christopher Reeve version. It’s not the Henry Cavill version. It’s a version of Superman and what he has gone through in the world that we live in and the things that he’s faced and what’s happened to him vis-a-vis how it reflects on Kara is all our invention.”
Are you excited to learn that Superman will fly high into the second season of Supergirl? Who would you like to see in the role?
