Supernatural is finally bringing God(?) back later this season

Considering how much this season has been focused on the man upstairs, it sounds like The CW’s Supernatural might finally be gearing up to bring God back into the mix.

TV Line reports that Rob Benedict, who has recurred on the series as “Chuck,” will return for Episode 20 of the show’s 11th season. The character was first introduced as a prophet tasked with telling the tale of Sam and Dean, though it was later heavily implied that he might actually be God himself, who has come to Earth to take a mysterious reprieve (hey, if Lucifer can do it, why not God?).

Sadly, the report doesn’t have any additional details about what “Chuck” will be doing, though this season has been all about God (and his apparent absence from heaven). Especially since this season’s Big Bad is God’s sister, The Darkness, it stands to reason the big man could finally make his presence known. Bringing Chuck back and (hopefully) providing some answers has been a long time coming, so here’s hoping they finally start paying off some of these threads.

Are you glad to hear “Chuck” will be back? What direction do you think they’ll take it?

Supernatural airs Wednesday nights on The CW.
