Rick and the gang don’t actually return until next month, but AMC has released a tantalizing new trailer revealing the focus of the back half of Walking Dead's fifth season.

Basically, it all seems to boil down to one simple thought: “Surviving together is all that matters,” as Rick notes over some nifty slow-motion footage of the gang stalking and shooting at an unseen foe. It’s foreboding stuff, and a nice change of pace from the series’ usual teaser trailers. Of course, all that atmosphere means virtually no new footage, but we’ll take what we can get.

Considering the first half of the season ended with some pure insanity, along with a trademark death, the teaser probably tells us a bit more than we realize. The writers are always very deliberate about phrasing, especially when you’re talking about a trailer with just a handful of dialogue.

With the group broken and frayed, it sounds like this will be the moment Rick pulls everyone back together. It also fits with some rumors and rumblings that the back half of this season might introduce a major comic storyline that revolves around Rick growing into a major leadership role in a new locale (we’ll leave it at that for fear of spoilers).
