In the words of the great Shrek, "What are you doing in my swamp?!"
We'll answer that with another question: Why is Alec Holland a swamp? That's right, we're talking about Swamp Thing, Len Wein's classic DC character, who is getting his own show on the DC Universe streaming service, which dropped a new and terrifying trailer for the series today.
Andy Bean (It: Chapter Two) will portray Holland, while Derek Mears (Friday the 13th 2009) is taking up the role of his swampy counterpart. Both are all set to face off against Jason Woodrue, aka The Floronic Man (played by The Strain's Kevin Durand).

Produced by James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman), the show, as evidenced by the teaser above, definitely leans into its horror premise. Since Swamp Thing is more of an antihero than anything else, this genre is a perfect vehicle through which to explore the character's darker inclinations. For example, those scenes of him coming to life in the morgue feel very much inspired by John Carpenter's remake of The Thing.
More importantly, did you notice the Blue Devil mask at the 56-second mark? That character will be played by Sharknado's Ian Ziering.
Last week, the show shut down production early as reports began to surface that the original 13 episodes were being trimmed down to 10. Shortly thereafter, an official teaser was released as if to stem the flow of worry from the shutdown by proving that DC Universe still has a viable product that would be delivered at the end of May. If true, the second teaser could be a continuation of fixing that particular PR crisis.
Crystal Reed (Gotham), Maria Sten (Channel Zero: The Dream Door), Jeryl Prescott (The Walking Dead), Virginia Madsen (Voltron: Legendary Defender), Will Patton (Halloween 2018), Jennifer Beals (Taken), and Ian Ziering (Sharknado) will also star.
Swamp Thing will debut on DC Universe Friday, May 31.
