Good news, Swamp Thing fans: Production for the upcoming TV series based on characters from DC created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson is underway — and there are pictures to prove it! Star-News, the daily newspaper for Wilmington, North Carolina, took several photos — nearly 50 in total — of the production crew shooting a scene involving a boat exploding on Greenfield Lake in Wilmington last week.

In addition to the explosion scene, the pictures reveal stars Andy Bean and Crystal Reed on set (or rather, in boat). Sadly, no sign of Bean made up to resemble the eponymous half-salad, half-human monster, so we'll just have to keep on waiting for that reveal.

Here are a few photos that the news outlet posted on Twitter:

The full lineup of photos is on the Star-News’ website. More filming on the location (sans pyrotechnics) is expected on Dec. 20, according to the accompanying news story.

Swamp Thing follows CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Reed) returning to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. Over the course of her investigation, Abby develops a bond with scientist Alec Holland (Bean), only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes descend on Houma, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets both horrifying and wondrous, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

The hourlong live-action drama will debut on DC Universe, DC’s new streaming service, next year.
