Spoilers ahead for Season 2 of SYFY's Wynonna Earp!

Wynonna Earp fans were in for a big surprise when the final seconds of the dramatic Season 2 finale revealed that Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and Waverly’s (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) mom was actually alive while the character had been believed dead since the beginning of the SYFY TV show. Not only that, but we also found out that Wynonna had been in contact with her (presumably) all that time.

While we only saw her from the back during the show’s closing moments, we now know who will be playing Mama Earp when the supernatural series returns later this year. SYFY has announced that Reign alum Megan Follows (of Anne of Green Gables fame) will play Michelle Earp in a key recurring role for the third season.

“Megan Follows is one of Canada’s most beloved and versatile performers,” showrunner Emily Andras said in a statement about the casting. “And we are beyond thrilled to have her onboard for such an iconic role. Her ferocity and fearlessness will fit in fabulously with the rest of our phenomenal cast.”

After giving birth to Doc’s baby (Tim Rozon) in Doc’s bar — on a pool table, no less — Season 3 will apparently see Wynonna back to her reckless, whiskey-imbued pre-pregnancy days. Oh, and she’ll be more determined than ever to put a stop to the Earp Curse and the one responsible for it all: Bulshar, aka the Demon Clootie.

Although she didn’t make SYFY WIRE’s list of 10 potential actresses who could play Mama Earp, Follows’ addition to the cast is certainly a welcome one as the actress has proven more than capable of mixing motherly love with ruthlessness in her role of Catherine de Medici on The CW’s Reign.

What do you think of Megan Follows joining the cast of Wynonna Earp as Michelle Earp?
