It's no longer safe to go back in the water.

There's a Deep Blue Sea sequel apparently in the works at Syfy and, according to a new report at Moviehole, the enhanced killer shark movie directed by Darin Scott (Something Wicked) is currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa, with Michael Beach (Insidious: Chapter 2, The 100, Aquaman) starring.

Here are the first plot details for the TV movie: Dr. Klaus Van Etten is experimenting on bull sharks, much to the chagrin of Misty and her team of marine experts. The sharks get out, of course, and all hell breaks loose.

The news comes on the heels of a report three months ago that Warner Bros. had been looking to make a sequel to the 1999 Renny Harlin film starring Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgard and LL Cool J. One of the many reasons why I enjoyed the movie was the sight of future The Expanse star Thomas Jane swimming with dolphins sharks, which was kinda hot.

There. I've said it.

This direct-to-video Deep Blue Sea 2 pitched by Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus director Jack Perez would have featured sharks surgically enhanced with automatic weapons, including machine guns and rocket launchers (I wonder if "laser beams" were also considered?). It was dropped by the studio before casting could begin.

Now, since Thomas Jane already has a working relationship with Syfy, I wonder if he'll reprise his role of Carter Blake for a cameo appearance. What thinkest thou?
