The angel war will be coming to earth soon, as Syfy has ordered a pilot for new series Dominion, based on the 2010 flick Legion.

If it’s anything like the movie, the series will likely fall into the dark-fantasy vein a la The CW’s cult hit Supernatural. The movie was an intriguing setup and a modest success, and the world seems pretty ripe for further exploration.

The new series looks to take the concepts introduced in the film even further, setting the action several years after the events of Legion, in a world already war-torn by the angels. If it can match the ass-kicking intensity of the film, it could be one heck of a fun ride.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on characters from the hit theatrical film Legion (2010), Dominion is an epic supernatural action drama set 25 years in the future after a war between an army of Angels and mankind has transformed the world.  The series follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he’s the unlikely savior of humanity.

The film’s director Scott Stewart will return to direct the pilot, and he will also stay on as an executive producer. Vaun Wilmott, who is also writing the upcoming Syfy miniseries Ringworld based on Larry Niven’s sci-fi book series, is writing and co-producing the pilot.

Do you think the concept is a good fit for a series? How would you like to see the concept expanded?
