UPDATE Friday, October 9: The contest is closed. The finalists have been chosen. Vote for your favorite!

Monday, September 28: Just because New York Comic Con is going entirely virtual this year, that doesn't mean your awesome pop culture costumes need to collect dust in the closet. A pandemic can't stop you from flaunting your fashionable creativity because SYFY WIRE is partnering with con organizer ReedPop for a cosplay contest hosted entirely on our Instagram page.

The competition (which kicks off today) is open to all amateur cosplayers from around the U.S. All you have to do is follow SYFY WIRE on Instagram, post a photo of your homemade cosplay on your personal page, use the hashtag #FanFaveCosplayContest, and tag both us and @newyorkcomiccon. It's really that simple, folks.

You can submit entries until Tuesday, Oct. 6, with voting set to begin on Instagram on Thursday, Oct. 8. The winner will be announced the following week — Wednesday, Oct. 14 — and receive a full New York Comic Con 2021 experience package, including four-day badges and perks for them and a friend. Official contest rules can be found right here.

In addition, SYFY WIRE will be co-sponsoring NYCC's annual Cosplay Central’s Virtual Championships of Cosplay, the most prestigious pro-cosplayer event in all the land. Scheduled to kick off Saturday, Oct. 10, the event will feature 50 cosplayers. Each one specializes in either armor or needlework, and there will be an additional "Beginners" category for up-and-coming creators. Jaremi Carey, of RuPaul’s Drag Race, will host, while SYFY WIRE's own Jackie Jennings (Con After Dark) will be sitting on the judges' panel alongside Yaya Han, Jedimanda, and Ginoza Costuming.

New York Comic Con's Metaverse runs between Oct. 8-11 on the NYCC YouTube Channel. For the schedule of livestreamed events, click here.
