The first teaser trailer for Syfy’s twisty time-travel series 12 Monkeys has been released, right on time for New York Comic Con.

Spoiler Warning: There are some spoilers from the Season 2 finale below, skip ahead to the video if you don't want to be spoiled.

Syfy’s (Blastr's corporate parent - Ed.) 12 Monkeys may be based on the 1995 film directed by Terry Gilliam, but it became its own thing as early as the first season and is probably one of the best sci-fi shows we have on TV right now. I mean, seriously you guys, if you haven’t watched it yet, DO. You won’t regret it. But I digress.

Spearheaded by co-creators Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (Terra Nova, Nikita), the show stars Aaron Stanford as James Cole, Amanda Schull as Dr. Cassandra Railly, Kirk Acevedo as Ramse, Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines, Barbara Sukowa as Dr. Katarina Jones and Todd Stashwick as Deacon (who may or may not have met his maker — it’s a time travel show, after all).

The jaw-dropping Season 2 finale saw the search for Titan come to a dramatic head and finally revealed the identity of The Witness (who, we’ve been repeatedly told, is safe). Deacon’s dead. Ramse meets up with Olivia (Alisen Downe), who, in 2045, is no longer working with the Army of the 12 Monkeys and has his son, Sam. Cole and Cassie are once again separated through time and space, and Jennifer was zapped back to a World War I battlefield. Yep, you read that right. WWI battlefield. Which was actually pretty darn hilarious because Jennifer.

But there’s nothing hilarious in this first teaser, which gives us a doom-and-gloom vision of 2163, made even more chilling by the cries of a baby. And if you've seen the finale, you know what that means.

12 Monkeys is slated to return for a 10-episode third season (instead of the usual 13-episode-run) sometime in 2017. Are you looking forward to the show's return on Syfy?
