What does The Walking Dead have that no one else has? It has heartbreaking, plot-twisting zombie badness week after week...and no competition. But now, it's about to get a rival, because Syfy will be airing its own take on the zombie apocalypse.

According to io9,

Z Nation starts three years after the zombie virus has gutted the country, when a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world's last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind's survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America.

Z Nation also has something that The Walking Dead doesn't have: A sense of humor. The Walking Dead tends toward the deadly serious, but this show looks extremely tongue in cheek (and other animated body parts). As you can see from the trailer, below, it's a bit like Tremors, but with zombies.

Will this show replace Rick, Michonne, Maggie, and Glenn in our hearts?  Not likely - but considering this airs in September and The Walking Dead returns in October, that's a whole month of zombies we wouldn't have had before.

And who knows? Maybe in a few years, after The Walking Dead has ended and Z Nation is the only zombie game in town, we'll be wondering if anything else can compare?
