Taika Waititi returns as Ragnarok fan fave Korg in Marvel mobile game featurette

After breaking out of Thor: Ragnarok not only as its director but also as the voice of the rocky warrior Korg, Taika Waititi has had the hearts of Marvel fans in the palm of his hand. Now, the multi-hyphenate has made his return to the MCU in one of the strangest ways imaginable: as the voice of Korg in an animated comic promoting a Marvel-based mobile fighting game.

Yes, in support of Marvel Contest of Champions, Korg makes his glorious return to the universe. Waititi’s deadpan delivery and easygoing, soft voice coming out of the giant, craggy Korg is already funny - but it’s even better when the circumstances ramp up the absurdity (and when his best friend Miek is there).

Take a look:

So it’s not just Miek making an appearance alongside Korg, but Valkyrie as well (described here as “Angry Lady”). Korg is looking for warrior recruits for his worker’s revolution, looking at Red Skull, Heimdall, and one very dead Doug.

Waititi riffs on it all, finding a bit of Flight of the Conchords silliness in the meeting. Those New Zealanders rarely had three-headed aliens crashing their gatherings, however. With aliens and jokes aplenty, this short misses its purpose of getting fans excited about the Marvel game and simply makes waiting for Korg’s return to the big screen even harder.

Oh — and piss off, ghost.
