All good things must end, as the well-worn phrase goes. But it couldn't be more appropriate for the fearful finale of IDW's Star Wars Adventures: Tales From Vader's Castle, and SYFY WIRE has an exclusive look at the climactic issue.
This weekly YA crossover title set in the Star Wars universe is written by Cavan Scott and paired with vibrant art from Derek Charm and a rotating lineup of guest artists. Tales From Vader's Castle is a five-issue anthology series framed around the Dark Lord's sinister fortress on Mustafar and Rebel Commander Lina Graf and her ragtag crew who have crash-landed on the volcanic planet.
These spooky Halloweentime yarns spun from inside Vader's foreboding headquarters spotlight favorite characters spanning the entire galaxy far, far way, including Star Wars Rebels stars Hera, Kanan, and Chopper; Obi-Wan Kenobi and Count Dooku; Han Solo and Chewbacca; and the fuzzy furball Ewoks.
For Tales From Vader's Castle #5, we're treated to a story harkening back to when Vader's obsidian base was attacked by an army of Mustafarian invaders bent on revenge for the slaughter caused by the Sith Lord. This final issue also spotlights the detailed art of Charles Paul Wilson III (The Red Ten, Wraith). The main creative team of Scott and Charm also explains how this issue came to fruition, with intriguing thoughts on where readers can expect this wrap-up tale to soar.
"Derek Charm nails this issue. Absolutely nails it," Scott tells SYFY WIRE. "I’ve loved the slightly darker style he’d adopted for this series and it all come to a head as Lina comes face-to-face with the Dark Lord of the Sith himself. Writing Vader was as much of a joy as you’d expect... and has left me hungry to write more! I’ve already started the campaign to return to Vader’s Castle in the future.
"Also, hats off to Charles Paul Wilson III who, in a few pages, produces some truly unnerving Star Wars images as we see what happens when an angry mob of Mustafarians storm Vader’s castle," he adds. "Let’s just say, it doesn’t go well."
"The framing sequence takes over this issue as Vader rampages through his home to take care of the intruders," explains Charm. "I was surprised by how intense Cavan's script got at the end of this one; it's an appropriately horrific conclusion."
