A new animated comedy executive-produced by Conan O'Brien is bringing the scale and beauty of space to TBS.

The creative team from Final Space took the stage at Turner's 2018 Television Critics Association winter panel this afternoon to discuss the upcoming show produced by Conan O'Brien's Conaco and New Form. TBS describes the show as a "serialized intergalactic space saga." Stellar talent including David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) are lending their voices to the series, which O'Brien says is "not a sci-fi parody" and has "real emotional consequences."

At the TCA panel, creator and executive producer Olan Rogers (Oscar’s Hotel for Fantastical Creatures) discussed just how the team re-created the majesty of space through animation. "One of the cool things was to make space real. All space backgrounds are from NASA photos. Even with the design quality of the characters, it’s familiar but slightly new. There’s a clean quality. We’re trying to make the most beautiful thing but funny, with heart."

Executive producer and writer David Sacks went on to describe how the space setting influences the animation overall. "We play with scale a lot. It’s very movie-like. We have the smallness of people juxtaposed against space. These are ragtag individuals trying to save the world, and yet they are just a speck in the universe. It’s woven into the animation."

Jump into Final Space when the show premieres Feb. 26 at 10:30 p.m. on TBS.
