TCA 2019: Austin Amelio's Dwight Returns in first images from Fear the Walking Dead Season 5

By Josh Weiss
Austin Amelio Dwight Fear the Walking Dead

Once Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC for its fifth season this year, Lennie James (aka Morgan Jones) won't have been the only actor to have crossed over from The Walking Dead.

Austin Amelio will be reprising the role of Dwight, and thanks to brand-new images from Season 5, we now have our first look at him in the spinoff/prequel/companion series. As you can see in the image below, his face is as scarred as ever, but at least he's got a nifty axe to keep any bothersome zombies away from his tasty, tasty flesh.

Austin Amelio Dwight Fear the Walking Dead

First introduced in Season 6 of The Walking Dead, Dwight was a lieutenant under Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors, but eventually switched sides to fight alongside Rick and the rest of the good people of Alexandria. Nevertheless, he was kicked out of Alexandria by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) at the end of Season 8. The horrible scarring on the right side of his face was the result of a burn-based punishment doled out by his former leader, Negan.

Lennie James is also coming back in the new season. Check him out in the image below with the wooden staff that's kept him safe from the Walkers all these years.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 5

There is no set premiere date for Season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead just yet, but we do know that the story will take place several years before The Walking Dead time jump following Rick's departure and the appearance of the Whisperers. However, those particular antagonists show up tomorrow night when The Walking Dead returns for the second half of its ninth season.

Yes, we know it's all very confusing.

The series recently found itself the subject of a lawsuit brought by writer Melvin William Smith, who claimed that the show was copying his own comic book, Dead Ahead. A federal judge denied AMC's request for the cast to be dismissed.
