Bad news for Stranger Things fans: It will be a little bit longer before we return to Hawkins -- even if it's just to check out the offerings of the mall. That's right, the third season of the 1980s nostalgia series from Netflix has been delayed.
At the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Programming at Netflix confirmed that we wouldn't be checking back in with the Stranger Things gang until Summer 2019.
"It’s a handcrafted show," said Holland. "They understand the stakes are high and they want to deliver something bigger and better than last year."
That may be a tough promise to deliver on considering the large scale of Season 2. Could it mean bigger sets? Another take-over of the town? More time in the Upside Down? Or maybe the crew will take more visits outside of Hawkins like a few of the teens did in Season 2. David Harbour (Hopper) has hinted at plans for the season encouraging fans to examine iconic films from the year 1985. Fingers crossed this delay means I'll be getting the Goonies-style treasure hunt I'd been hoping for.
Holland continued the session saying, "I think it’s going to be an incredible season and worth the wait." We hope so too.
Stranger Things returns Summer 2019.
