Running around for the last 27 years must have worn out Sonic's sneakers because the famous blue hedgehog is getting behind the wheel in an upcoming video game, Team Sonic Racing. If we're being honest, it looks like just another Mario Kart rip-off, but the Sonic franchise did set a precedent for engaging racing levels in 2001's Sonic Adventure 2. Remember "Escape from the City"? That's a true jam right there.
The announcement trailer only features Sonic and Shadow, but you can probably bet that Tails, Eggman, Amy, Knuckles, Rogue, Chaos, Cheese, Big the Cat, and Metal Sonic will all be playable characters. For a racing game, you need at least a dozen options, so customers see the value in actually purchasing the title for its variety.
Like Diddy Kong Racing, there's a chance that lesser-known characters will be included — say, Vector the Crocodile, Mighty the Armadillo, and Ray the Flying Squirrel. Indeed, Entertainment Weekly reports that there will be 15 personas to choose from, all of them excelling in a different areas: "Speed, Technique, and Power." We just hope rings and chili dogs are placed strategically around each course.

No concrete release date has been announced, but the game is set to drop sometime in the winter for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. U.K.-based company Sumo Digital, known for such racing titles as TOCA Race Driver and Driver '76, is developing the game, which will make its gameplay debut at E3 in June. This isn't Sumo's first foray into the Sonic world, having worked on Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom.
