Neill Blomkamp, who directed District 9 and Elysium (and the unfortunate Chappie), will be releasing a series of short experimental films in the coming months. Known as Oats Studios "Volume 1," these films aren’t coming to the art-house cinema or even YouTube. Oats will be released on Steam.

Although many of you know the glory that is Steam, I’ll explain it for those who don’t: It’s the world’s greatest videogame platform, and everything from AAA titles to indies to VR games and experiences appear on Steam.

Steam has also added movies to its already impressive catalog, such as Hollywood hits documentaries, stand-up comedy and grind-house fare. Blomkamp’s short films—about an invasion of reptilian aliens—should make an excellent addition.

According to The Verge, Blomkamp started his career with short films. District 9 was originally conceived as the short film, "Alive in Joburg."

Check out the teaser trailer, which shows Dakota Fanning greeting the aliens with extreme prejudice and Sigourney Weaver giving combat orders.

Do mine eyes deceive me, or is that a young-looking Michael Biehn at 0:34?

It seems that Blomkamp's love for Aliens is as strong as ours.
