If you thought the success of Deadpool would erase the superstinkers that star Ryan Reynolds had previously made, you’re incorrect. While the preview for Deadpool 2 cracked a good joke at the DCEU’s expense, some of the supers in that world that share a certain predilection for pop culture are more than happy to remind Reynolds of his past superefforts.
In the trailer, Cable stabs Deadpool in the neck after delivering a few raspy put-downs. Deadpool responds with, “So dark. You sure you’re not from the DC Universe?”
And it’s true, the DC film world has been super-serious ever since Zack Snyder got his hands on it, despite the recent attempts to lighten things up with humor and less brooding gloom. But the animated DC world? Where DC has thrived long before the current iteration of superhero franchises swept the industry up into a flurry? There lies Teen Titans Go!, which is coming out with its own movie soon and has no qualms about roasting Reynolds’ Green Lantern movie on Twitter.
Sorry Ryan, that flop doesn’t protect you from being in the DCEU before heading over to Marvel. This is sure to start some sort of inter-comic social media slapfight and we’re completely here for it.
That is, until Deadpool 2 comes out on May 18 and Teen Titans Go! to the Movies comes out on July 27.
