Telltale’s The Walking Dead game series created an iconic character, broke plenty of hearts, and kickstarted a gameplay style that’s traversed franchises and genres. Now, after over six years of ancillary TWD world-building, the series is approaching its end. Season 4 sees Clementine taking on the role of protector to a young ward, reversing the role she was introduced in.
Players will take on the protagonist’s journey to survive and protect AJ, an orphaned boy whom Clem has taken under her wing. How will that affect her attempts to find a home in the nightmarish (yet hopeful) world in which she’s grown up? The first trailer has a few hints.
Take a look:
Clem’s already doing a good job training AJ, who seems capable (especially since he’s never known a time without zombies). But the last line, putting forth the hypothetical situation where Clem gets bit, foreshadows some difficult choices at the end of the series.
The final season’s first episode is set to launch on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on Aug. 14, while a Nintendo Switch release is on its way later in the year.
