Looking back to 1991, James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day has withstood the test of time and still looks pretty fresh in this superhero-obsessed digital age. It's also kinda sad that this was the high-water mark for a proud franchise that now seems sunk after the 2015 attempt to revitalize the series with Terminator: Genisys.
Cameron's well-balanced sci-fi masterpiece elevated the genre with a brash style and genuine pathos usually reserved for high-brow literary adaptations. Let's hope he can help revive the Terminator saga in 2019 using Deadpool's Tim Miller for Skydance in between his dozens of Avatar sequels.
A new T2 3D theatrical release featuring a sparkling 4K remastering of the original 35MM negative is being promoted for an August 25 debut and I can't wait to see this spectacle explode across the big screen again and hear Arnie's T-800 deliver his iconic "Hasta La Vista, Baby" line. Though every time I see Robert Patrick's icy-cool T-1000 I'll probably snicker a bit remembering his patrol officer cameo in Wayne's World.
Check out the new trailer for T2's triumphant return to the multiplex and its radical Skynet destruction and sweet suburban mullets.
