Marvel’s latest, most epic film, Avengers: Infinity War, smashed the domestic box office opening weekend record while answering a lot of lingering questions about what’s happening in the MCU. However, the film doesn’t address everything and it leaves the fate of a few characters up in the air.
SPOILER WARNING: Avengers: Infinity War plot details follow.
Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie was widely rumored to play a part in Infinity War after her memorable turn in Thor: Ragnarok. And while Marvel isn’t ready to reveal what happened to Valkyrie between the two films, Thompson has her own theory.
On Sunday, Thompson shared a joke on Twitter that supposedly reveals where Valkyrie was during Infinity War. It turns out she was with Bucky all along!
For context, this is a reference to a parody Twitter account that tracks goats that look like Thompson. The actress is apparently a fan of that account, since she is one of its followers.
But what really happened to Valkyrie during Infinity War? Fans should probably be happy she didn’t show up in the opening minutes considering the way that two popular characters were quickly dispatched. It’s the same fate that was probably waiting for Lady Sif if Jaimie Alexander hadn’t been busy filming Blindspot during Thor: Ragnarok's shoot.
There’s a good rule about death in superhero comics: If there’s no body, then they aren’t dead. We never saw Valkyrie fall to Thanos or the Black Order, so there’s still a very good chance she’s alive. We’re hoping that Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek made it off the ship with at least some of the Asgardian refugees. Perhaps the still-untitled Avengers 4 will let Valkyrie take her place among the remaining heroes so she can get her shot at Thanos and avenge her people.
