Thanks to GI Joe 2, live-action He-Man remake finally happening

There have been rumblings for years now that He-Man and the Masters of Universe was getting a big-screen reboot. Now it's actually happening. And we (kind of) have G.I. Joe: Retaliation to thank for it.

Director Jon M. Chu, who is currently reshooting some G.I. Joe scenes for the 3D conversion, is in talks to direct a live-action Masters of the Universe remake.

He'll be working from a script written by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch, which studio folks seem keen enough on to think it can capture the magic of the classic 1980s cartoon.

Of course, this isn't the first time He-Man has graced the big screen. Though the 1987 attempt, starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella, flopped at the time, it has since become a "so bad it's good" guilty pleasure for those who grew up in the era.

But I think we're all hoping this new version goes a little more smoothly. Though his background is in the Step Up dance movie franchise, the studio seems to think Chu has the action chops from his work on the (currently delayed) G.I. Joe sequel.

So here's hoping.

What do you think? Have you been waiting all these years for He-Man to try it again?
