Thanos-themed subreddit to ban half its users in tribute to Mad Titan

While Thanos finally rests, and watches the sun rise on a grateful universe, the moderators of a Thanos-themed subreddit are doing their part to keep life -- or at least, one small portion of the internet -- perfectly balanced. By banning half its users. Wait, what?

In tribute to the Mad Titan who indiscriminately wiped out half of the universe's population at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, the subreddit ThanosDidNothingWrong plans to wipe out half of its users. Even though the site's administrators aren't fans of this plan, the moderators are still looking to remove more than 100,000 users from the subreddit.

One of the subreddit's moderators told ScreenRant that the 50% ban -- which would be as random and arbitrary as Thanos' cull -- would take place on July 9.

But if you're one of the users who get expunged from the subreddit following the snap of the moderators' fingers, all is not lost. Those who didn't survive the cut can join the new subreddits r/SoulWorld and r/InTheSoulStone (named after a popular Infinity War fan theory that we're not going to get into here).

This stunt/gag/bit follows the creation of the website DidThanosKillMe, which lets visitors see whether they were spared by Thanos.

Avengers 4 (or perhaps Avengers: End Game?) assembles in theaters May 3, 2019.
