Remember that Blake's 7 reboot we heard about a while back? Turns out it's been picked up by Syfy for further development. If the pilot script rocks, we could have a new version of the classic British sci-fi series back on the air within a year or two.
Deadline is reporting that Syfy has locked the project in for a script-to-series commitment, meaning that if network execs are happy with the pilot pitch, they'll likely greenlight a 13-episode first season.
The original BBC series debuted in 1978 and was set 700 years in the future around a small group of rebels battling against the massive Terran Federation. it was low-tech, but fans loved it, and the series is still remembered fondly among sci-fi fans of a certain age.
The pilot will be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes) and directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). Still no word on exactly how the reboot will be approached, but looking at the canon, this could defnitely have a Stargate Universe or Battlestar Galactica edge to it.
What do you think of the prospects for a new version of Blake's 7? Have you been waiting all these years?
