A movie poster, like a book cover, gives us a look at what's inside in a single glance. A typical poster gives a screenshot from the film or perhaps a look at some of the characters ... but a good poster captures the mood the movie is trying to convey. From our look at the best posters of 2014, you'll see that some posters are more successful at this than others.
As it happens, 2014 gave us some awesome movies and some awesome movie posters. But if you've seen the movies themselves, or read the reviews, you'll see that some talented graphic artists created posters for movies that were, um, not the best of the year. In some cases, the poster is the best thing about the movie.
But why take my word for it? Let's hear from someone who really knows his stuff. We spoke to Bob Eggleton -- the nine-time winner of the Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist, as well as a concept artist for The Ant Bully and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius -- who gave us his artist's-eye view.
