Is the Alien franchise preparing for a comeback in 2019? Quite possibly — the good (not really) scientists and profiteers of Weyland-Yutani are in the middle of cooking something up, and someone has been offering clues as to what it is via the Instagram page for the Alien Anthology.
So far there are two posts on the account, and the second post claims to be "2 of 6." When completed, the animated images promise to offer a "6 Part Dossier Exposing the Secret History of Weyland-Yutani." Whatever secret history ends up being explored is bound to be interesting, as well as full of skeletons and mischief — this fictitious company is responsible for almost every bad decision in the world of Alien, rivaled perhaps only by the idiocy of Jurassic Park's InGen or Terminator 2's Cyberdyne.
Take a look at the first post here:
Not does Weyland-Yutani get a hashtag, but so does Amanda Ripley. Amanda is the daughter of the famous Ellen Ripley, and was introduced in the video game Alien: Isolation. Going by the way these posts are being written, the information could be coming from Amanda herself — she'd have more than enough reasons to dig into Weyland-Yutani's vaults of stupidity. The second post takes this even further:
Right there in the first part, you can see that the WY scientists have succeeded in getting their hands on a specimen, something they've been trying to do for so very long. The second post includes a caption that reads, "The facility is hiding a terrible secret. Highly aggressive mega-parasites with corrosive blood. They're breeding them, using them for research." That sounds...bad. WU could be taking a page out of InGen's book — why go out to space to capture aliens, when you can just "breed" them yourself? Suicide can take so very many forms.
"Amanda" again adds herself as a hashtag, along with "Stocking Stuffer" and "Mega Parasites." Let's not put those things together — there's no need to stuff a stocking with parasites, whether they are mega or not.
What is Weyland-Yutani up to? What exactly is (we presume) Amanda Ripley trying to find out here? More importantly, what is all of this in service of? Amanda is set for a comeback in next year's comic event, Aliens: Resistance — does this have to do with that? Investigating Weyland-Yutani is supposed to be a large part of that new Dark Horse comic, so it's possible.
Be on the lookout for four more pieces of whatever story is being told here. We don't know exactly what it is, but when you put Amanda Ripley, Weyland-Yutani, and Christmas stockings stuffed with mega-parasites all together? You have our attention.
