TNT has unveiled the first trailer for its hotly anticipated TV series based on Caleb Carr’s award-winning novel The Alienist.
The psychological thriller currently filming in Budapest mixes two of my favorite things (I know, I know. I have many favorite things): a sumptuous (and sexy) period drama wrapped in a thrilling murder(s) mystery! What’s not to love? It also happens to star Daniel Brühl (Captain America: Civil War), Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) and Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds). If that wasn’t enticing enough, the series hails from Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga (True Detective).
BAFTA-nominated Jakob Verbruggen (Black Mirror) will be directing, with Douglas Smith (Miss Sloane), Matthew Shear (Mistress America), Matt Lintz (Pixels), Robert Wisdom (The Wire) and Q’orianka Kilcher (The New World) also starring in the series. Check out the official synopsis before digging into the trailer below.
The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped the city. Newly appointed top cop Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), a criminal psychologist -- aka alienist -- and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard (Fanning), a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.
Paramount Television and Turner’s Studio T are co-producing, with Verbruggen, Fukunaga, Eric Roth, Hossein Amini, E. Max Frye, and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin executive producing.
There’s no premiere date slated for The Alienist yet, other than it’s coming soon on TNT, but I’m crossing my fingers we’ll be getting this one really, really soon.
