If you’re wondering how director Matt Reeves’ The Batman is going, you’re not alone. The much-scrutinized project has been through some tumultuous changes at the top of its creative departments (with star Ben Affleck in the director’s chair at one point), but recently there have been a few updates on how the film is progressing.
Well, the briefest of brief updates, really. Things are going, and, according to Reeves -- who chimed in on Twitter after being asked how The Batman is coming along -- they’re going “really, really well.”
That’s a breath of fresh air after the open secret of Affleck’s unhappiness with his Batman run, so at least pre-production still continues with high spirits.
Next, a rumor crept out this week that the film would be about how young Bruce Wayne dealt with the death of the second Robin, Jason Todd, as per the “Death in the Family” storyline. Well, now we’ve got an unnamed response to that unsubstantiated rumor. According to a source cited by The Wrap, this is simply “false.” That’s it. Cut and dry.
However, it’s not like there isn’t reason to believe that at least one Robin has met a tragic end in the DCEU. In Batman v Superman, a scene showed Bruce Wayne observing an encased Robin suit that had been defaced with the phrase “HA HA HA Joke’s On You, Batman.” That sounds like The Joker’s handiwork, as was Todd’s death in the comics. But that apparently won’t be the focus of Reeves’ film, which, as noted before, is apparently coming along just fine. As far as we know.
