Amazon Studios is looking to adapt Peternelle van Arsdale’s sci-fi novel The Beast Is an Animal, which was published earlier this year, into a movie. Not only that, but legendary director Ridley Scott will reportedly produce via his Scott Free banner, which also oversees Amazon’s hit alt-history drama series The Man in the High Castle.
According to Variety, Amazon is zeroing in on the female directing duo of Bert & Bertie (they helmed YouTube Red’s original movie Dance Camp) to adapt the story, which centers on a young girl who lives in a world that fears "soul eaters" — twin sisters who morphed into terrifying creatures — but that also relies on the namesake beast to guide them.
Bert & Bertie are also attached to direct Troupe Zero for Amazon, from a script penned by Lucy Alibar, with Todd Black producing.
Amazon has certainly been on a roll, with the success of Transparent, The Man in the High Castle, Sneaky Pete, and The Last Tycoon, and has been building buzz for The Tick, which premieres on Aug. 25.
