Celebrities love genre-inspired Halloween costumes too, just like us

This year, even before Halloween got started, there were already some quality celebrity costumes out there — perhaps none better than Emma Watson's Wonder Woman. Now that the best holiday of the year is upon us, here's a look at some of the coolest genre-honoring Halloween costumes that celebrities put together for the big day.

First up, Halloween aficionado Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka went big concept, dressing as some of the hitchhiking ghosts from Disney's Haunted Mansion rides. Burkta posted the results to Instagram, with their 8-year-old twins getting in on the action.

Actor Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester on Supernatural, ended up sporting a very authentic-looking Red Hood costume. Ackles had previously voiced Jason Todd, the Red Hood's alter ego, in 2010's Batman: Under the Red Hood. Clearly, he's remained a fan of the character in the years since. He also gave a shoutout to costume maker @arachnobite for all the help.

Sticking with the Batman theme, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel went family style as LEGO Robin and Harley Quinn, respectively. Their son got the honor of being LEGO Batman, of course.

Former Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar also went with a Harley Quinn costume this year ahead of a Good+ Foundation Halloween bash over the weekend.

Pop sensation Halsey also donned the costume of a famous Bat-villain, Poison Ivy, which she called her favorite costume "of all time ever."

Jumping from DC to Marvel, actor and writer Stephen Merchant put together a pretty convincing Doctor Strange outfit. While his work in front of and behind the camera is extensive, some may remember him as Caliban in director James Mangold's Logan.

The cast of Stranger Things got in on the fun with an array of costumes, many of them Star Wars characters. However, star Noah Schnapp dressed as co-star Millie Bobbie Brown's character, Eleven. While not only a fun choice for Halloween, it's a possible nod to the fan theory that Schapp's Will Byers and Eleven are one and the same.

Ever the Halloweener, Heidi Klum (that's her above in 2017 as Michael Jackson in "Thriller"), went with full-on professional prosthetics this year to pull off the perfect Princess Fiona from the Shrek franchise. She even posted a time-lapse video to capture part of the transformation.

Finally, earlier this week, Sophie Turner's fiance Nic Jonas surprised everyone when he revealed that he dressed as Turner's Game of Thrones character Sansa Stark.
