The burden of casting Deadpool 2's Cable was as heavy as Cable's prop rifle

The new trailer for Deadpool 2 is upon us, and with it came our first real look at Josh Brolin's Cable in action. Brolin reportedly bulked up significantly for the role, which is a good thing— his rifle may have weighed as much as a mid-size house.

Rob Liefeld (the creator of Cable) said as much to The Hollywood Reporter, recounting a moment on set when Brolin handed him the giant prop rifle.

As Liefeld says, "Josh gave me the rifle to hold and said, 'Be prepared: This is heavy.'" He didn't mean it in a Marty McFly kind of way either, because Liefeld was "shocked" by how heavy the thing was. "It's a 70-pound rifle!" he says, adding that Brolin was sure to tell him that he had "to run up hills with this thing."

Rifles aside, Liefeld is pretty content with the casting of the hugely important character. According to him, finding the right guy was "the most important thing this movie had to do," and he followed casting rumors voraciously, going from "ulcer upon ulcer upon ulcer." In the end, it would seem that the ulcers were worth it.

With the casting of Brolin, Liefeld says that he "jumped 12 feet in the air, maybe higher" because he was so pleased with the news. As for the film itself? According to him, if Deadpool was Alien, then Deadpool 2 has to be Aliens. "We're going to make it bigger, put in loads more action," he says, and apparently the weight of the rifle was included in the concept of going bigger.

Deadpool 2 opens on May 18, but in the meantime, how excited are you for Cable's debut? Are you ready to see if he can life that canon? Let us know in the comments, but great scott, keep it light.
