Rob Zombie has been tingling spines for years now, and his latest horror flick feels like the strange sweet spot between Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw. With some of his trademark The Devil’s Rejects creepiness thrown in for good measure, of course.

Dubbed 31, the film follows five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a large compound. At the mercy of their captors, they are forced to play a twisted game or life or death called 31. For the next 12 hours, they must fight for their lives against an endless parade of homicidal maniacs. It certainly looks terrifying, and as you’d probably guess, the trailer is not for the squeamish. Early festival buzz has been a bit mixed, but if you like Zombie's style of horror, you should certainly still dig this one.

The film stars Sheri Moon Zombie (Halloween), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem) and Meg Foster (They Live). The film was written and directed by Rob Zombie.

31 is set to open Oct. 21.
