After a filming process that was reportedly cursed itself, The Curse of La Llorona debuted its first terrifying trailer today. The James Wan-produced film (previously titled The Children) tackles a Mexican ghost story about The Weeping Woman. Director Michael Chaves brings a cast including Raymond Cruz, Patricia Velasquez, and Linda Cardellini to a movie just as intent on building out the families of these kids as it is on ruining these poor children’s days.
A mysterious undead woman, cursed for killing her own offspring, now haunts the earth (specifically '70s L.A.) searching for misbehaving youths to take, thanks to a script by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis. Yikes. It’s even worse when you see the trailer.
Take a look:
When the preist says that La Llorona is a folktale... "for some," well, you know things are about to go down. The good news is that this ghost seems to be similar to a raptor in a Jurassic Park movie, where locks and car doors slow it down. The bad news is that kids are stupid and ghosts always get the jump-scare victory.
The film also released its first poster, which puts these children at just as much risk as you may have guessed:
La Llorona hits theaters on April 19 of next year.
