Two superhero series from The CW have just dropped trailers for their upcoming seasons. In the trailer for Season 5 of The Flash, we get a quick, and not terribly clear, peek at Barry’s new nemesis, Cicada. Meanwhile, the trailer for Black Lightning’s second season promises a lot of action. Let’s check them out.
In Season 5 of The Flash, Barry Allen & Co. will confront a new villain, Cicada, as promised at San Diego Comic-Con. In the “Shadows Trailer” below, we get a brief — and we mean brief — glimpse of Cicada. Barry and Iris’ daughter from the future warns them of a new and dangerous villain, who’s hidden in the shadows. Hey, you don’t think that’s why this is being called the “Shadows Trailer,” do you?
At any rate, apparently Cicada was defeated in the future, but Nora West-Allen’s time traveling undid all of that. Oops.
Black Lightning’s “Guess Who’s Back” trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of plot so much as it promises the return of many characters, such as Anissa Pierce/Thunder, Tobias Whale, Khalil/Painkiller, and Syonide. And action. Lots and lots of fast-paced action.
So, we’re given less exposition and more punchy-shooty-lightning-striking here. Or, as Tobias Whale says: “No more words. Time to die.”
It’s…it’s pretty cool. Give it a look:
As previously mentioned, though we don’t get much in the way of story here, Cress Williams, who plays the eponymous Black Lightning, hinted at San Diego Comic-Con that viewers will see his character try to take on being a superhero, principal and father in the upcoming season. So, there’s that to look forward to.
Both shows premiere on Tuesday, October 9 on The CW: The Flash at 8 p.m. EST; Black Lightning at 9 p.m. EST.
