The first details for Season 2 of Fox’s The Exorcist have emerged, three weeks after the network finally announced they were moving ahead with a second season.

Although plot details are being kept under wraps, TVLine reports that Alfonso Herrera (Sense8), Ben Daniels (House of Cards) and Kurt Egyiawan (Skyfall) are set to return as Father Thomas, Father Marcus, and Father Bennett (who became a fan favorite) respectively and that our triumvirate of demon-@$$ whooping priests will be back to take on a new possession case.

Gone are the Rance family; meaning Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Hannah Kasulka and Brianne Howey are exiting the series, but we’re told they could return in a guest-starring capacity. Here’s what writer and executive producer Jeremy Slater told Deadline last year when Season 1 came to a close (before anyone knew if the show would be renewed):

“My goal was then that this first season needed to tell a story with a beginning, a middle and an end and that story was the possession of the Rance family. So by the conclusion of this episode, you will get a satisfying ending to that story, as was my plan.

So Season 1 was all about the Rance family and the visit of the Pope to Chicago and a Season 2 would mean our challenge would be to come up with a new storyline that was just as exciting and emotionally gripping – but that doesn’t mean we won’t see the Rance family again.”

What do you think about The Exorcist tackling a new possession case for Season 2? Are you glad that Father Thomas, Father Marcus, and Father Bennett will return?
