If you have faith in the the unholy storylines and sinister spectacles that haunted Season 1 of the The Exorcist, you're going to be crawling up walls with a season that's going to be even more of a holy terror.

With the Rance family vanishing from the cast after the first season (even though there were whispers that we won’t be seeing the last of them), returning priests Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels and Kurt Egyiawan will be facing their demons elsewhere. Executive producer Sean Crouch teased that the series will now haunt the Pacific Northwest and we will now see a creepy foster home for at-risk kids appearing out of the mist. At risk for exactly what when you're dealing with a universe infested with demons remains a mystery. Enter newcomers John Cho, who will be running that foster home as ex-child psychologist Andrew Kim, and troubled teen Verity aka Deadpool's Brianna Hildebrand as the latest victims of … we really don't know yet.

Crouch was excited that that this season will give the producers and cast an opportunity to "do a lot of things we didn’t get to do [in the first season]." While he acknowledges that the legacy the first season was built on will always loom over the series, he also spilled that the second will be venturing into dark places where it hasn’t yet dared to tread. Herrera added that the show now has "an opportunity to explore new universes, to explore new geographical places." Places where you don't want to venture anywhere near the woods after dark.

Expect to see more of a nature horror aesthetic entwining with aspects of J-horror movies such as Ringu. Being someone positively possessed by J-horror, I'm thrilled about this. He also mentioned weird things happening in the woods. While it seems that about 99.9% of horror movies are based on weirdness in the woods after dark, I expect prime nightmare fodder out of something that merges these two subgenres. Please tell me something unspeakable will rise from the bowels of the earth or that a demonic entity will warp the forces of nature to suddenly start swirling into one huge vortex like in Uzumaki.

Speaking of strange and possibly Lovecraftian phenomena, the teaser real gave us a glimpse into a Ouija board whose planchette moves by no human hand and nuns doing something blasphemous. It may or may not be a ritual sacrifice.

So if there’s something everyone is dying to know about, literally or otherwise, it's what will transpire between rival preachers Father Tomas and Father Marcus. The priests are going to be at each other’s throats with even more vicious fervor even with the whole demon issue looming overhead. Daniels did admit a surprising contradiction to his normally aggressive character who "speaks the language of violence." Marcus will start to become more human. That could even mean — shock — dating.

The new Exorcist poster just released at San Diego Comic Con. You know something is lurking in those woods.

The actors agreed with supernatural enthusiasm that this season will be exponentially scarier and more kick-ass than the first. Hildebrand doesn't know whose human or paranormal (or both) butt her character will be kicking, but she will be kicking it regardless. There was also a blooper real from Season 1 in which a catatonic Casey covered in blood and nobody wants to know what else only looks half dead until she spontaneously cracks up.

By the way, there will also be a trip to Mexico that could involve eating crickets. You'll just have to keep fighting off the nightmares that will induce until Season 2 premieres on September 29.
