The first Deadpool movie was so good that it managed to catch even hardcore comic fans off guard on its way towards becoming a true Hollywood blockbuster. But as recently as a few months ago, there were rumors that the sequel just didn’t live up to the original. Fortunately, the early word from tonight’s Deadpool 2 preview screenings indicates that director David Leitch was able to recapture the magic of the original and more.
In the film, which opens to the public next weekend, Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as the title character, alongside Josh Brolin as Cable, and Zazie Beetz as Domino. The cast, including offbeat inclusions like seemingly powerless Peter, earned the majority of the rave early responses. The action and the humor also received praise from some critics, many of whom appear to have enjoyed it more than the original movie.
So far, there aren't too many critical responses to the film. But at least one viewer suggested that it takes a while for Deadpool 2 to get going.
Deadpool 2 is widely expected to be the first film to unseat Avengers: Infinity War from the top of the box office. Apparently there's at least one joke that will touch upon Deadpool's box office status that went over very well with another critic.
Considering the response to Cable and Domino has also been positive, it bodes very well for the X-Force movie that Fox wants to make in the near future.
One of the most commonly recurring notes from the screening is that Deadpool 2's mid-credits scene is one of the very best ever seen in a superhero movie.
Everyone will get a chance to see Deadpool 2 when it officially opens on Friday, May 18.
