There are very few Hollywood blockbusters that have changed directors late in principal photography. But that’s exactly what happened to Solo: A Star Wars Story after the majority of filming had been wrapped. Co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were removed from the film, and Ron Howard was brought in to finish the movie and oversee an unspecified amount of reshoots.

This made fans very nervous about the quality of Solo, even though it’s still unclear exactly how much footage had to be refilmed (although a recent report pegs Howard's contribution at around 70%). Some observers even predicted that Solo could potentially become Lucasfilm’s first Star Wars flop, but that seemed fairly unlikely. Naturally, fans have been very eager to discover whether Solo turned out to be a disaster or if Lucasfilm had once again saved a troubled production.

So far, the verdict from the critics is that Solo lives up to its predecessors. Donald Glover's performance as Lando appears to be earning most of the praise, but the general note on Alden Ehrenreich is that it takes a while for him to get into full Han Solo mode. But it sounds like he does get there.

But not everyone was fully charmed by Solo.

And there's at least one bold prediction about who the next anthology film will star.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released on Friday, May 25.
