Later this month, Guillermo del Toro and DreamWorks Animation's acclaimed fantasy series Trollhunters will debut its final season on Netflix. The show has been widely praised for its storytelling, characters, and visual style, and fans of all ages will be sad to see it go. Before the end, though, the Trollhunters gang will face their biggest fight yet.

The Gumm-Gumm leader Gunmar (Clancy Brown) has built up his forces and is not simply content to take over the world of trolls that lies beneath the town of Arcadia. He's got designs on the whole world of humans, and together with a resurrected Morgana he plans to plunge it into Eternal Night. Standing in his way, as ever, is the Trollhunter, Jim (Emile Hirsch, taking over this season from the late Anton Yelchin), and his friends Toby (Charlie Saxton) and Claire (Lexi Medrano), but they won't be able to win this fight alone. In order to save both the troll world and the human world, they'll have to go directly to the source of the Trollhunter amulet and resurrect the great wizard Merlin (David Bradley) to aid them in their cause.

The new trailer, released Monday by Netflix, features plenty of that great blend of adventure and humor we've come to expect from Trollhunters, along with plenty of glimpses of the team's final adventure. Toby and Claire get new armor, new characters join the fight, and Merlin's overall look gets an update from the classic robed wizard style we're used to seeing. Check it out.

Trollhunters returns for its final season on May 25, but you won't have to mourn its loss too long. As Netflix and DreamWorks have already announced, the series is the first in a planned trilogy of genre series set in Arcadia, all dealing with supernatural threats to the seemingly quiet town. The second, the sci-fi series 3Below, will arrive later this year, followed by the final series, Wizards, in 2019.
