I realize the CG-animated, The Good Dinosaur, is aimed at young kids and families, but I'll be one of the first in line to capture a dino-sized dose of its sunny disposition and fantastic imagery. Scheduled for a Thanksgiving release, it combines CG-designed characters with near photorealistic environments to portray the prehistoric playground of Arlo the plant-eating Apatosaurus and his cavekid sidekick in a world where the asteroid missed.
Here's the official synopsis:
“The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
Directed by veteran Pixar animator and storyboard artist, Peter Sohn (Monsters University, Ratatouille), this alternative timeline feature treads on familiar ground with its themes of parental loss, friendship and life-affirming discovery, but its stunning level of detail truly pushes the art of animation into breathtaking new territory.
