Kleenex stock is about to go wayyyy up. Why? The answer is simple: the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame, aka Avengers 4, aka the highly-awaited sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. Twitter promptly entered a state of instant mourning and understandably so.

As if mornings weren't bad enough, Marvel Studios wanted to remind us that Earth's mightiest heroes failed in their attempt to stop Thanos (Josh Brolin) from wiping out half of all life in the universe. The characters we find in the trailer are broken, unsure of themselves and their efficacy in reversing the situation. Even Captain America (Chris Evans), usually so stolid and confident, sheds a vulnerable tear for his fallen comrades. Well, at least Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) kept his sense of humor throughout it all.

And what of Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) floating out in space with a limited oxygen supply or Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), who looks like he had to watch his family crumble into dust before his very eyes? Why must you do this to us, Kevin Feige?! WHYYYYY?!!

The reactions to the trailer are a helpful guide to your pain, with some really astute observations about how Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) gave away the title in Infinity War and the way in which Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) may signal Cap's demise.

Check out some of the best Twitter reax to the initial Endgame trailer below, and fair warning, some of the language is a bit NSFW...

Avengers: Endgame will open earlier than expected on April 26, 2019.
