Star Wars fans now have a new The Last Jedi behind-the-scenes video to dissect for clues — including a new interview with director Rian Johnson.

In a clip from USA Today, the director discusses his first moments on the Millennium Falcon, and it's virtually teeming with his deep affection for the world of Star Wars and the project itself. We also hear from Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Mark Hamill on what it's like to work with Johnson, plus a bit from Carrie Fisher that reminds us why we love her so much.

The interview itself has some interesting insights about Rey, Finn, Poe, and Leia, as well as this nugget from Johnson on what challenges the characters face.

"When I first read the script of The Force Awakens, I was like, 'I feel like I know these characters instantly,' " he says. "And now we get to kind of put them through a meat grinder... And for me, part of that meant that we had to make things as hard on each of them as possible."

This isn't the first time we've heard about these characters being challenged in ways they've never been before. Even Hamill mentioned that he was reticent at first. But it sounds like everyone's happy with the result, which only serves to further whet fans' appetites.
