The Last Jedi's First Order Judicial Executioner: What we know about the new Stormtrooper

Ever since A New Hope, every subsequent Star Wars film has been known to showcase a new class of stormtrooper, and Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi is no exception.

With Force Friday almost upon us, pics of The Last Jedi's upcoming toy line surfacing on Reddit reveal that the new stormtrooper in question is officially called the First Order Judicial, a black and white armor-clad executioner tasked with doling out death to traitors with an electrically charged ax.

No doubt their presence is going to figure heavily in the latest installment given that ex-stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) is high up on Kylo Ren and the First Order's most-wanted list after defecting and joining the Resistance to fight for the New Republic's survival.

And from the little we know of The Last Jedi's plot, it looks like we've got a bad feeling about this baddie. As behind-the-scenes footage attests, Finn seems likely to be found guilty of treason and encounter a Judicial on this latest adventure after apparently getting captured early on in the movie and locked in an imperial jail cell with a new character, Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), a maintenance worker for the Resistance.  The two manage to escape and go undercover on a Star Destroyer disguised in First Order officers' uniforms.

However, since we know Boyega is slated to return in Episode IX, it looks like he'll make it out just fine.

The Judicial follows on the heels of the electro-baton-wielding riot control stormtrooper otherwise known as the TR-8R who Finn went up against in Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens. With the ability to battle lightsabers and stun anyone who gets in his way, that stormtrooper was a hit with fans. No doubt Judicial will bring a simiilar jolt of excitement just as the cold assault stormtroopers and scout troopers did back in their day when they made their debut respectively in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
